Wisbech and Fenland Museum’s Robert Bell gives a short video interview about the recent shoe exhibition ‘Best Foot forward’ which finished Saturday 4 June.
The exhibition featured early roller skates, chinese foot binding and luxury vintage shoes.
Robert said: “We’re really pleased with how the exhibition went. We had loads of good feedack too from the members of the public. Although the exhibition has now finished, If we receive enough requests we’ll put it on again.”

This was a really interesting exhibition – I was amazed at the Japanese shoes and photographs of feet that had been bound.
Memories of the platforms and the elegance of the shoes from the 1920′s era together with the explanatory notes I found this very well presented and enjoyable.
Is there any chance a small permanent exhibit can be put on show? Well done!
As a fan of roller skating ShapeYourPlace was intrigued to see how skates have evolved. Having watched the video I am very glad we now have the modern skates we do as there was no way I would have been able to stand up on the early ones!
As Robert says although the exhibition has now finished if there are enough requests it will run again. ShapeYourPlace for one would like the chance to see these facinating shoes.
