Tesco’s New store

I read somewhere that Tesco’s are no longer going to build large out of town stores. How does this impact (if at all) on the proposal of a new Tesco store on the old stadium grounds. Are the plans to go ahead, or does this mean the idea is now scuppered? We seem not have heard about this scheme for a while now. Does anyone have any information?

  1. Significant work seems to be happening on the site of the old stock car stadium for the first time. There are several large earthmoving vehicles and a lot of site buildings have been delivered. A long, long way to go yet, but things appear to be finally moving.

So when are you going to DO something about the derelict buildings, some of which have been this way for years (Cook the Butchers/ Foster Bros) in Wisbech. Not much sign of ‘active promotion’ there surely?

The FDC Planning Delivery team have confirmed that in April Tescos Stores Ltd successfully applied for a non-material amendment to the approved scheme in respect of the foodstore. This would appear to be a clear indication of a continued commitment to delivering the store on the Stadium Site. Picking up on comments regarding derelict buildings Fenland District Council actively promotes the Fenland Renaissance Grant scheme and continues to work closely with landowners to seek solutions and bring vacant and under utilised buildings back into active use

  4. You still think FDC don’t care, I am certain they don’t, never in all my born days, have I come across a bunch of people who do not put the town of Wisbech at the forefront, which is when I last looked, CAPITAL OF THE FENS, no train station! Manea has a station, yes, it may do 2 stops a day, but its there, Watlington has a station!, Wisbech, no station, no infracture, no monies coming in, no shops, no monies coming in, derelict building equates to nobody coming in to spend money, which means death to the town as a whole. And spending money elsewhere, I rest my case. And can I have a rebate on my Council Tax?

FDC say they can’t do this (compulsory purchase). King’s Lynn Borough Council seem to have no problems. Also I note very few derelict buildings in March, where FDC have their base. I still think FDC do not care about Wisbech.

Never seen anything to prove they do!

  6. I can’t see why they could’nt do a compulsory purchase order, that might have concentrated the owners minds a bit, instead of leaving the buildings to go to rack and ruin, even the restaurant over the North Brink is still boarded up. Maybe it’s time for a Council Tax Rebate.

The trouble is Jayne, all the derelict buildings are in Wisbech. I don’t think FDC know that Wisbech is in their area. I did read that once they tried to move the boundery of their area so wisbech becam North Norfolk. Then problem off their hands.

It is good Steve Barclay is trying somthing. But two derelict buildings have been that way for at least 7 years (ever since I moved to the area) and then some time more. FDC have had years to do something, and done not a lot. Oh they did collect my Council tax. Albeit at one stage they thought I lived out of their area. ‘Til I asked thenm why I pay them the council Tax, and can I have my money back. Clouds of smoke from reversing wheels appeared :-)

  8. I thought this was still going ahead, cos Tesco’s just applied for something to be included, but I have not seen any work on the site being done, so maybe it’s all fallen through, and we are not getting anything. Which does not surprise me at all, another derelict area to match the ones in town, even Kings Lynn manage get something done about their derelict buildings. At least MP Steve Barclay is to petition parliament to put pressure on FDC, as for the Fenland Council leader saying a deal to resolve Constantine House is imminent, well, I will believe that when I see it with my own eyes.
